Welcoming Elleana McComb to LanciaConsult
Q&A with our recent Belfast recruit, Elleana McComb
Q: What were you doing before you joined the team at LanciaConsult?
A: Before I joined Lancia, I spent a few years as a Technology Consultant at PwC and had a short stint as a BA at a Regtech firm.
Q: How long have you worked in consulting?
A: I have been working in consulting for three years now! Time flies.
Q: What do you enjoy most about a career in consulting?
A: I love consulting! I love the diversity of the role and the fact each client has their own requirements, so each job is completely different, which keeps the role exciting and interesting. No two days are the same, which I really enjoy.
Q: What type of projects do you work on?
A: The main projects I’ve worked on are large Oracle finance transformations. I have also been involved in business carve-outs helping with enterprise architecture.
Q: What are you most excited about at LanciaConsult?
A: I’m so excited to be part of a small yet growing team based in Belfast. I feel super lucky to be part of a firm with ambitious plans, passionate about contributing to a thriving working environment! The culture at Lancia is so special to find, and working with such lovely, welcoming people has confirmed for me that joining Lancia was, without a doubt, a great decision.
Q: What did you study, and how did you decide to embark on a career in consulting?
A: I studied international business with one year at the University of Sydney, which opened my eyes to the world of consulting. I was involved in a project in Sydney which gave me a great insight into the role of a consultant, and the importance of technology adoption across industries. I loved that project, working as part of a team to solve problems collaboratively, so I figured I could try and pursue a career as a tech consultant. I also like talking and building relationships which suits this role a lot!
Q: What do you think are the primary skills needed to thrive in consulting work?
A: This was a tricky question as I think consulting requires an array of skills, and everyone brings their unique flavour to consulting, but I would say the three skills that stand out for me are:
Communication – as a consultant, you talk to many people, whether internally or externally, to clients. You need to communicate well to get your points across, especially your ideas, across. Sometimes this is the hardest part!
Think outside the box – in the consulting world, you constantly have to problem-solve or come up with creative ideas, so thinking outside the box is a great skill to help solve issues or add value to a client deliverable.
Organisation – your job role varies daily depending on whether you are on one project or several projects at once. You need to be able to organise your workload and time management and prioritise your tasks to work effectively and meet deadlines.
Q: What’s the best thing about the Lancia offices in Belfast?
A: The offices in Belfast are great. It feels like walking into a lovely hotel reception – it has all the perks. As we are expanding so quickly, we are moving offices at the end of summer and rumour has it the new offices are even better so I can’t wait to see what’s in store...!
